Owen debet esse aut Iohannes (si inter praenomina Cambrica accepimus) aut Owen (si inter cognomina). Unde Agnus? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:22, 19 Septembris 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Owen is the gaelic name for "sheep", well in latin become Agnus--Lodewijk Vadacchino 21:34, 19 Septembris 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. The Latin for "sheep" is "ovis" -- but no, don't change it to that! Our rule is not to translate forenames but to convert them into the traditional Latin equivalent if there is one. So, even if he really was "Lamb Wilson", by our rule we wouldn't turn him into "Agnus Wilson".
Since he has Irish ancestry, we could take it that Owen is the Irish forename whose Latin equivalent is (I believe) Iohannes. Or maybe we should prefer "Owen Wilson". Any other views? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 22:11, 19 Septembris 2008 (UTC)[reply]
