Cuniculi Gibraltarenses, paene ducentos annos praecipue ab Exercitu Britannico constructi, fecerunt ut Saxum Gibraltarense sit "verum leporarium cuniculorum quae arma ignifera, receptacula aeroplanorum, copias ammunitionis, castra stativa, et valetudinaria condiderunt."[1] Gibraltaria, intra aream solum 2.6 milium quadratorum, cuniculos circa 34 milia longos habet, paene bis tantum longitudinis omnium viarum in territori. Primi cuniculi, saeculo duodevicensimo excavati, pro transitibus communicationis inter locos tormentorum erat, et arma intra adyta in septrionalem saxi faciem caesis condiderunt. Alii cuniculo saeculo undevicensimo constructi sunt ad accessum faciliorem ad remotos territorii regiones sinendum ac copias artificiososque aquaeductuum lacus accommodandos.
