Boreus hyemalis est species mecopterorum familiae Boreidarum.

Descriptio[recensere | fontem recensere]

Boreus hyemalis est insectum a 3 ad 4.5 millimetra longum. Alae sunt segmenta reliqua colore griseo-brunneo metallice nitentia. Singuli super nivem repunt vel adeo saltant ubi temperatura prope punctum congelationis manet, et sic Desoriae saltantis et Chioneae similes sunt.

Maribus sunt quattuor brevia alarum vestigia, quae prope apices deorsum flectuntur; feminis sunt duo alarum vestigia squamarum similia. Feminae plerumque ovipositore, tubo curvo et subtiliter ensiforme, agnosci possunt. Adulti solum frigidiori anni tempore, inter Octobrem et Martium, inveniuntur, cum coitus fiat. Larvae bryophytis vescuntur, et mense Septembri in foramina recedunt ut pupas efficiant.
