Венгеров предположил, что это изображение Евгения Онегина: "Едва ли можно сомневаться в том, что этот найденный нами в тетради Румянцевского музея №2387, л.62, портрет, — и по одежде, и по тому, что под ним подписано "Предисловие к Евгению Онегину", и по общему духовному изяществу типа — есть именно Онегин.
