Català: Escena de la defensa del "Parque de Artillería" durant l'aixecament de la ciutat de Madrid el 2 de maig de 1808 contra l'exèrcit napoleònic. Centra la composició l'artiller Pedro Velarde en el moment d'ésser abatut. A la seva esquerra hi ha Luis Daoíz ordenant noves posicions dolorosament ferit arrepenjant-se al canó . La resta de la tela presenta un gran grup de personatges anònims que arroseguen canons, disparen amb fusells i ataquen amb ganivets i pals, envoltats per un terra ple de víctimes. L'ambient és ple de fum de trets.
