Yes, see the disputatio for my opinion of that. Everyone I know calls the city by Egger's Sydneia, and now that I look in his Lexicon Nominum Virorum et Mulierum he gives the personal name as Sydneius (Ew!). I don't recall where I originally saw the equation of Sidonius (you're right about the spelling) with Sydney, but it's clear I didn't invent it. See, for instance here, and here.
