Sydney is generally equated with Sidoneus. Also sometimes Dionysius (via French Saint Denis) --Iustinus 07:54, 6 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who equates Sydney with Sidoneus? (Sidonius?) As for the Saint Denis thing, it's true that we did have the Australian city at Sanctus Dionysius for a while, but it looked a bit inappropriate. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 09:02, 6 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, see the disputatio for my opinion of that. Everyone I know calls the city by Egger's Sydneia, and now that I look in his Lexicon Nominum Virorum et Mulierum he gives the personal name as Sydneius (Ew!). I don't recall where I originally saw the equation of Sidonius (you're right about the spelling) with Sydney, but it's clear I didn't invent it. See, for instance here, and here. This page also makes the equation, though more subtly. --Iustinus 16:26, 6 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)[reply]
