Well, I've done the basic stuff: domino effect in war-declaring, fast war, trench war and end of the war. I couldn't find a good way of saying trench other than limes fossarum et vallorum. However, it still needs to be expanded--Xaverius 21:00, 4 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice one, Xaveri! I used fossa too at Pugna Callipolitana and D. Morgan says "trench (as those of WWI) = fossa castrensis". I will be writing about the causes of the war and some of the 1914-15 stuff like the Race to the Sea and I plan to write about some of the battles as well. I haven't really studied anything that happened after 1915. Harrissimo.

Basically between 1915 and 1917 it was a trench war where soldiers conquered and reconquered the same field once and again and again. First artilliery shot, then infantry andvanced and it was stopped by hand-granades and machine guns. It was only when in 1917 all forces were deployed on the wester front that all was decided at a single blow: the Germans lost at that point because the Americans gave extra support to the allies. Nevertheless, there are two very important things you can learn on WWI watching Blackadder goes forth:

Wow! You have enlightened me :)... In a couple of weeks I'll be going to Francia and Belgia and I'll be visiting Verdun and lots of WWI Graveyards. Hopefully that'll inspire me. Harrissimo.

Thanks for responding. I'm no lover of little flags, but I suppose a full list is useful somewhere in the article. Once we have that, then any other, non-full list is asking for elimination! (It may be that a full list in the text is better, because it could be accompanied by further detail, e.g. the date at which each state declared war.)
