How is a lion named after another animal?[fontem recensere]

"How is a lion named after another animal? If I have misunderstood something , please revert and explain."—The lion, Panthera leo, seems to be named after the panther. (It's the leonine species of panther.) However, this category may best be restricted to cases where the species epithet is that of another animal. IacobusAmor 15:37, 12 Februarii 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes, I see what you mean now. But I think I agree, it's better not to try to get this into a category -- this is after all a basic feature of the way Linnaean nomenclature works, like Canis lupus and Prunus cerasus. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 15:48, 12 Februarii 2012 (UTC)[reply]
