The usual translation of Lagos is Lacupolis wich is odd on a number of levels. I'm pretty sure Egger rejected the translation on that basis, but I don't have his lexicon handy. --Iustinus 06:17, 27 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, here it is:

Lagos
Lacupŏlis, is, f.
Est caput Nigeriae, sic appelatum (Lagos)

So I guess he approves of Lacupolis afterall. He probably invented it: it certainly sounds like his style. I don't recall where I saw the screed against Lacupolis, but it pointed out that Lagos doesn't really come from lacus and that that medial u is very odd. It doesn't seem to be in Morgan either, he just cites Egger. Oh well. Note also that Egger says the Curia (he often differs from them) uses Lagosensis, which I suppose implies the city is Lagos (indecl.), which is what this article already has.
